It doesn't matter if you are an experienced coach or brand new.....Becoming a coach is easy and involves the following components! 


  • Coaches be must be 18 years old to be eligible.
  • Coaches must complete a Class A Volunteer Registration form every three years.
  • Coaches must take the Online Protective Behaviors course.
  • Find your local program:  Special Olympics Tennessee is organized at the grassroots level with 32 accredited local programs serving every county in the state. Local programs are managed by local volunteer directors who oversee all aspects of athlete registration, sports training, competition, fundraising and volunteer management.
  • Contact your local area director to get started.

Certification/Training:
It is the mission of Special Olympics Tennessee to provide appropriate, high quality, year-round sports training to each SOTN coach.  Special Olympics Tennessee strongly believes that quality coaching enhances the Special Olympics experience for all individuals involved and ultimately provides athletes opportunities to steadily improve sports skills, competitive ability and the ability to more actively participate in life.  Experience gained at coaches training events including networking with other coaches is extremely helpful in preparing for coaching.
