Volunteers Overview

Thousands of volunteers, of all ages and from all walks of life, generously share their time and talents with Special Olympics Tennessee. They coach and train athletes, assist in fund-raising, organize events and more. Special Olympics Tennessee simply would not exist without the year-round dedication and tremendous volunteer commitment of interested citizens from across the state.

From large groups to every individual, Special Olympics Tennessee has a volunteer opportunity for everyone. Volunteers assist on the day of area and state competitions by presenting medals, timing runners, setting up sports venues and completing other hands-on projects. Volunteers also work as officials at competitions, organize Special Olympics programs in their own communities, and become members of a Games Committee to implement area and state events.

Furthermore
Special Olympics is a year-round program, providing training and competition for athletes all year, which means we need volunteers like you all the time.

Volunteers are placed in two categories: Event Day Volunteers who come to help on the day of a competition or fund-raiser and Class A Volunteers who have close contact with the athletes, such as a coach, and are in a position of authority, supervision and trust.
