Come join YAP – Young Athletes Program – from Special Olympics Tennessee.
Our Young Athletes Program is a unique sport and play program for children ages 2 to 7 with and without intellectual disabilities. Our focus is on fun activities that are important to mental and physical growth.
In our sessions, children enjoy games and activities that develop motor skills like balance, flexibility, strength and coordination. In fact, in a recent study, children with developmental delays who participated in a structured 8-week Young Athletes program showed significantly more motor development than those who did not. Not only that, their teachers and parents also reported improved confidence, language skills and social skills. After participating, involved families shared that they played more together at home and in the community.
SOTN’s YAP kicked off our first 8-week virtual session via Zoom and there is already so much to celebrate! Coach Kristi is bringing athletes from across the state together every Saturday morning to play and work on gross motor skills that will prepare them to participate in future sports activities and meet new friends. Inclusion starts here! With or without an ID, athletes ages 2-7 and families, and friends are invited to join in each week to work on different skills.
SOTN's YA Program is currently running every Saturday via Zoom at 9:00 (cst).
Participation is free.
