Liberty Creek High School recently hosted the Middle Tennessee Regional Basketball Tournament, where athletes from across the region came together to compete in fast-paced games that serve as a precursor to the state tournament, where qualifying participants will vie for medals.

For many athletes, the excitement comes as much from teamwork and camaraderie as from scoring.

“Shooting the ball and passing it to my teammates on time,” said TJ K. of Lebanon, describing his favorite part of the Special Olympics.

During the event, players showed their love for the game, their teammates and their coaches, celebrating not only competition but perseverance and dedication. The atmosphere throughout the tournament was lively and filled with excitement, with cheers, laughter and encouragement echoing across the gym.

Michael L., coach of the Thunder, reflected on his team’s gameplay.

“We did pretty well. The first game seemed a little rocky, but they pulled it together,” he said.

Among the participants was Williamson County coach Travis D., who praised his team’s sportsmanship and effort.

“We had a great time. We have three goals when we play: to be good sports, good teammates and have fun. I think they accomplished all three,” he said.

Coach Josh S. also celebrated his team's energy.

“We did great today. Everybody had a lot of fun. We worked really hard on energy, getting back and running, smiling. They crushed it,” he said.

Long after the final buzzer, the cheers and laughter of the weekend still echoed through the gym, making it a truly great showout and leaving athletes, coaches and families with memories they won’t soon forget.
