The Special Olympics Tennessee Train 4 Life™ program promotes nutrition, fitness, and mental well-being for individuals with intellectual disabilities aged 13 and older. This 12-week wellness initiative includes pre- and post-fitness and biometric assessments, nutrition and healthy lifestyle education, and weekly group workouts.

Scott Edgar, a Special Olympics athlete since 2020, took advantage of the Train 4 Life™ fitness sessions to achieve his health goals and become a better athlete. He started his weight loss journey in his early 20s.

“I was one pound away from being Mr. 300,” Edgar said. Train 4 Life™ proved to be a turning point for Edgar, mentioning how he “needed a hand on what exercises I could do and what foods I could eat.”

Before joining Train 4 Life™, Edgar faced many challenges and unhealthy habits that took a toll on his mental and physical health. Insistent on making a change, Edgar joined three Train 4 Life™ sessions a week, learning how to incorporate nutritional awareness, sustainable habits and structured fitness sessions into his daily routine.

“I was literally at my lowest point; I had lost everything,” Edgar stated, "But I decided just to tell myself never again, to start training and eating right.”

With guidance from trainers and the support of his fellow Williamson County athletes, Edgar's hard work began to pay off. Dedicated to Train 4 Life™, Edgar gained significant strength and lost 80 pounds.

“I am still trying to adjust to the fact that I've lost so much weight,” says Scott,” It has given me so much confidence as a person.”

For Scott, weight loss was just the beginning. Scott’s story is a testament to the impact of fitness programs like Train 4 Life™; he has gained more strength and confidence than he ever imagined, both physically and mentally.

Edgar encouraged others to pursue their ambitions as he has throughout his journey: "Everyone has dreams and goals, whatever it is, go for it.”
