At this year’s Music City Blitz Invitational presented by Nissan and in partnership with the Tennessee Titans and the NFL Foundation, the electric energy of Nissan Stadium wasn’t just from the crowd or the bright stadium lights—it came from the heart of competitors like Jordan Barnes and Gavin Higgs, an athlete and Unified duo from Anderson County High School in Clinton, Tennessee. Representing Special Olympics Tennessee in the annual flag football tournament, these two young men brought home more than just a championship—they carried the spirit of sportsmanship, friendship and determination.

Barnes, a Special Olympics Tennessee athlete, described the experience at the event with a smile.

“It makes me feel good," said Barnes. "I love throwing the football to my friends and having fun.”

For him, the field is more than turf—it’s a place of belonging, joy, and personal victory.

Higgs, Barnes' peer partner and teammate, reflected on their preparation leading up to the big win.

“We went every day for thirty minutes during lunch, practicing and figuring out the plays,” Higgs said. “Honestly, just the feeling of scoring kept me motivated. It built my confidence.”

Higgs' standout moment? Scoring three touchdowns in what he called “the best game I played in.”

Beyond the touchdowns and tackles, both spoke passionately about what the experience has meant for them off the field.

“Being with all your buddies just makes you a better person,” Higgs shared.

“It makes me feel good playing the game, and happy after,” said Barnes.

The support of friends, family and community made the victory even sweeter.

“We hype each other up and get excited for each other,” Higgs said.

Jordan summed it up best: “It’s not about winning. It’s about having fun with other people.”

Their story is just one of many from the 2025 Music City Blitz Invitational—a day that brought athletes, peers, and supporters together to celebrate inclusion, determination, and the pure joy of sport.
